Armoy is situated on the river Bush and close to Glentaisie and Glenshesk which form the two sides of Knocklayde mountain, the village is regarded as one of the entry point to the Glens of Antrim, both Glentaisie and Glenshesk are easily reached from the village. It is also well known for its association with the Road Racing legend Joey Dunlop and the Armoy Armada. There are numerous places of interest to discover including: The Dark Hedges, several celtic stones, a round tower and a classic example of a Motte and Bailey. The Moyle Way also passes through ancient Breen Wood which is on the road to Glenshesk. Armoy is also where Saint Patrick founded one of his first monastic settlements in Ireland. |
